Color your world challenge

"Challenge info:

-Make 1 card by using a stamp or stamps. You can use any image(s) you like.
-You can only use colored cardstock.
-You can not use anything with a pattern like: patterned papers, patterned fabrics or patterned ribbons, and so on.
-You can use markers, pens, pencils and paint.
-You can use embellishments like: buttons, brads, eyelets and so on"

That was a tough one for me, as I hardly have any non-patterned papers. I prefer patterned papers for cards and scrapping, and my selection of plain colours is very limited. I used one of my favourite stamps with Pierrot (Invoke arts). I cut out the frame from a vellum and added doodles with a golden ink pen. The swirl is another chipboard from Technique tuesday.

Favourite stamp challenge on Twinspire

I don't have a stamp that I can call all time favourite, but this one from Lost Coast is my favorite at the moment. It is elegant, stylish, and poetic too.

Lime Tart challenge

I didn't find it easy at all, as lime green is a difficult colour.

Birthday card for my niece

My niece Alexandra is 6 years old. This is a card for her.

Got Paint? Lots and lots... Caardvarks challenge

Got paint? Indeed I have, and I love to paint with watercolours, acrylics and 3d paints.
The first card is an old re-vamped card. I have painted the little girl with watercolour and acrylics, and attached ribbons to her hat (thanks to Chris for yummy ribbons!).
The second image is a happy mermaid, painted with 3d Pebeo paints. These images decorated many peasant houses in the old times in Russia, and they were usually carved in wood on window sills as protectors bringing good luck to the house.
That's why I thought the wood imitation paper from Daisy D's was an appropraite background for my mermaid.
They weren't your silly zero size girls with skinny tails but happy fat women or more traditionally built, using PC language, lol.

Scallops challenge/Caardvarks

For my Treasure each day card I have chosen the Rubbadubbadoo stamp (yet again).
Papers used: mostly BG and a wallpaper sample. I love the texture of this wallpaper, it is all raised, and very touchy feely, it also reminds me of marble blocks and tiles we have seen in Forte dei Marmi, a little town amidst the mountains nearby Viareggio where we usually go to the sea. I have cut the scalloped edge and painted little scallop seashells with the Pebeo paints.

Doll

This doll has been created for a swap on one of my arty forums. The face is done from polymer clay.
I painted the face with acrylics, cut out a shape from the thick card and used some lovely curtain samples to create the dress.

Yo Ho Ho!

It seems everyone is into pirates now, so here\'s a birthday card made for a young boy. The Obscure range seems to be perfect for all kinds of masculine cards. All materials used are the Obscure range, except the coin charm (origin unknown) and Roxie stamps from Love Elsie. I have cut a hat and attached a chipboard skull with bones that have been painted with buff and gold acrylics. The palm tree is a ribbon (attached with the double tape) and leaves cut out of paper. There are several other chipboard elements that were painted and attached to the card. The map was rolled and a ribbon attached to it, the edges inked to get a distressed look.

My little flower LO/Arty Girlz challenge Flowers

I am not a flower person, and very rarely use them on cards or LOs, and this one is a rare for me LO with flowers all over the place. My little flower is of course my baby. This photo was taken over five years ago, in New Haven CT. I think the paper and textile flowers match the blue of my blouse and an abundance of cornflowers in the background. I remember it was a hot day.
The chipboard heart and letters were painted with powder blue acrylic and decorated with 3d paints. I also added some 3d dots to the flowers.

Dragonfly catcher tag

This is a tag I made recently for a swap on a theme Wings.
I have chosen a poem by a Japanese poetess Chiyojo (1703-1775)(another spelling of her name is Chiyo Ni) selected and translated into English by Daniel C.
Buchanan in his book "One Hundred Famous Haiku" (1973).

Dragonfly catcher,
How far have you gone today
In your wandering?

This is a beautiful and poignant poem, which was composed after her only son died, who was fond of hunting dragonflies.
I painted the little boy with acrylic, so that the leaf is seen through his body, as he is not a real boy, but a dream, a vision from the past. He is wandering in the fields of memory of his mother hunting dragonflies. After all these centuries you can still feel the pain and melancholy.

Circle of friends gift

This is my little trinket box made for a circle of friends swap.
I have painted the Sirin bird with watercolour, inks and acrylics and then used a varnish.
Varnish has slightly changed the colour to the lighter shade.
This is the best photo I could do, and I took a zillion. My camera totally refused to co-operate on this occasion.

Sirin is a mythological creature of Russian legends, with the head and chest of a beautiful woman and the body of a bird (usually an owl). According to the myth, they lived "in Indian lands" near Eden or around the Euphrates River.

However, the Wikipedia is slightly wrong. It was good luck to encounter Sirin, the bird of joy and happiness, and/or hear its song. However, meeting a bird called Alkonost was a harbinger of sad things to come.

Chipboard challenge at Caardvarks

Here are two cards, totally different in style and mood (one card is removed by me)
One was made for a young girl's birthday, and the person who asked me to make the card wanted a name of the girl on it. The chipboard letters were untreated, and I have painted them over with the acrylic paint. And I also did a party hat (horror! horror! lol)
The second card was made with a PaperArtsy stamp and BG papers. The ribbon was painted over with the 3d paint. Here I used a ready made chipboard word (PM).

Treasure box for Sasha

The Obscure range of papers and chipboard has a very masculine feeling about it, so my immediate thought was to create a treasure box for a boy to keep little bits and bobs. I had an old wooden Sachertorte box from Vienna for ages, and finally it was a time to do something with it. I have painted it with a powder blue acrylic inside and outside, and after it was dry, I made a collage of Obscure paper (6x6 size pad) and Undressed chipboard, which has been painted with powder blue, gold and buff tintanium acrylics. I have also attached two pieces of ribbon to the top with the double-sided tape (one ribbon comes from Obscure collection, another - Urban couture). The same methods were used to decorate the sides of the box. I also used Technique Tuesday/Pieces of Puzzle stamps to stamp several words on the sides...

I liked the idea of a mini-card. The 3d face is painted with acrylics, and the headdress is painted with 3d paints.

This is one of my favourite photos of Sasha enjoying the swimming pool last August. It was a pure joy for us all to see him so confident and happy.
I liked the coral reef paper so much, and didn't want to cover it, so just highlighted some bits and details with the 3d paint.

Vintage babies

I love rummaging through the albums of photo cards at the antique market, and these two little guys caught my eye. The sweet melody baby card has been stamped in 1909.

A melancholic birthday boy has a cute verse next to him "The world is fairer, the world more gay, For friendly wishes Received today", and the text on the back made my eyes fill with tears. It is written by a little boy to his Mummy, and he added more than fifty x-s at the end of his message, bless him.

I made these cards for two forum friends, and hope they liked them.

Fabrics/Hunny Bunny LO

This is not a new LO, I did it for the recycled challenge on Mod Scraps several months ago, but never put it on my blog. I don't buy fabrics very often, but would like to suggest using curtain samples from interior/curtain shops that come in books.
I picked up a few books from a local curtian shop, when they were discontinued.
Here I used a curtain sample as my main background, and also cut out the fabric flowers, and attached the fabric backing to some of the chipboard shapes.

Balance challenge

Sasha loves the sea, he treats it like a live creature, smiling to it and laughing at the sea's tricks. To him the sea plays with him personally. We have that mental image of Sasha thinking there's someone in there who rolls the waves for him.

The text on the tag reads "You're so in tune with nature, in perfect harmony with the waves and the sun, enthralled by the physical properties of nature, in intimate relationship with the elements, so much in love with the balance of sea, sun, sand".
I created this LO for the Balance Challenge on One Little Word.

Oh Mummy, blue...

This has been created for the Blue challenge on the Wednesday Stamper.

I bought this photo card at an Oxford antique market last week, and love the melancholic look of the lady.
I seem to be making cards on the run lately, as with Sasha around it is difficult for me to stay at the table for five minutes uninterrupted. So, I blame poor innocent Sasha on any faults you find. lol

One two buckle my shoe

This week's challenge on TMTA is Metal.
I did this Shoe ATC as a reference to the BATA shoe museum in Toronto, which I visited at Easter time and loved.
The buckle on my shoe is a part of a belt that I bought in a charity shop, it is a chain of buckles. The BG was embossed to resemble the brocade.

blinking ballet

I was searching for Prokofiev's piece "Montagues and Capulets" and came across this video. It is absolutely fantastic and brought tears to my eyes. Love it!

Wed Stamper/Stitch your dreams

A real quickie, as I have a million of things to do today, but with another birthday approaching, I wanted to incorporate some stitching (embroidery stamp).

I love this photo. Just looking at the girl's waist, I wanna scream, it is sooooooo tiny.
I added some red sparkling embossing powder to the BG patterned paper, and I like the effect, it looks like a brocade.

My very own Seaside Forrest Gump... Run, Sasha, run...

As if he needs any encouragement, lol.
Here is my ATC for the TMTA Numbers challenge with Sasha running along the beach. One two three seconds... and he is gone... my very own Forrest Gump.
I made this LO with some of the latest photos from our trip to Viareggio. The text on the tag says: "Sasha runs along the beach like a seaside Forrest Gump - free, strong, enjoying the run with every pore of his skin - not looking back to see whether anyone follows - he doesn't care. All he cares for at the time is Sea Sun sand - and there's no stopping him".
As some of you know well, Sasha shares with Forrest Gump not only his love of running... so it's a bitter sweet reference. They are both kind, loving and have a heart of gold among other qualities.

Sleepless in Woodstock

As I had a bad night today, plus Sasha got up at 6am (why does it always happen on Sundays?! a purely rhetoric question, as there is no answer, except God knows), I thought I'd make a card with a sleeping child as a way of wishful thinking. Hope we both sleep tonight like the little guy on the PaperArtsy stamp.

A life of a mermaid

We are just back from Italy, where I spent days playing in the swimming pool. Can you see my mermaid's tail doing ripples on the water surface? lol I am laughing at myself, as I am a terrible swimmer, I can probably win the contest for the most slow swimmer, also I have to use a floating aid, and Sasha does much better than me, bless him.

Galina-"Bibby" fan base

Sasha's school had a creative month this summer, and I volunteered to run papercrafts classes for Year 2 and Year 4. I enjoyed working with children, I forgot how good it feels to tutor and see results of your teaching. I used to teach art and crafts classes in Russia years ago.
On Friday Sasha brought a Thank you card for me from school, and I must say it made me smile.
I'll keep the spelling as it is in the original.

Scythian Gold

For the Asia challenge I decided not to go along the Far East route and visit either China or Japan, but look closer to my own shores.
The Scythians were the fierce, nomadic horsemen who roamed the European steppe from the seventh to the third centuries BC. These proud warriors, who grew rich on trade with the Greeks, commissioned lavish gold objects for adornment, ceremony and battle, drawing on their own ancient artistic traditions and employing the finest Greek goldsmiths of the age.
The Scythians flourished more than 2,500 years ago in what is present-day Ukraine and are among the most fascinating of the great warrior cultures that dominated the steppes for centuries. They originated in the central Asian steppes sometime in the early first millennium, BC.

Sasha loves nursery rhymes, and I always wonder what dreams he has, does he dream of Bobby Shaftoe and Little Bo-Peep, Humpty-Dumpty & Co? I have painted some of the nursery rhymes characters with the 3-d paints to go with the photo of my little one asleep, bless him.

From Russia with Love LO

Love, love this James Bond song... It is also one of my favourite photos of myself, when I was oh so young, in my early 20s. I used to be a member of the ethnographic society in my home town, and here I am wearing a replica of a Northern Russian dress called sarafan. My headdress was slightly wrong (for me), as this type of a headdress was intended for married women, and I was not married at that time, but I just loved it.
I used Russian Journey papers (Dove of the East) and Daisy D's, plus Russian ribbons.
BTW, the word "treasure" doesn't refer to myself, but meant to mean treasure your heritage, lol.

Some of my recent work...
Charms for a swap, quite similar to the ones I made before, but this time with a king's image. I tried to achieve a pewter imitation effect, so coloured in the baked Fimo stars with silver and black (then wiped it off) acrylics.

A birthday card.

An altered CD for a swap. The challenge was to use orange, yellow, lime and pink colours. I found it very difficult, so cheated a bit, there is lime, but it is in the back, and I used the dark green instead. lol My idea was to do an imitation of native American rugs. I stamped the native images, and then painted the surface with 3-d paints. The photo is really bad, but I already sealed the packet for posting.

Here is my birthday card for Gillian. I found this little cutie in a charity shop, and used a colour photocopy for my card. There's not much stamping involved, except the word "Happy" (Tuesday Technique stamp). But there are three buttons. lol

The idea belongs to Jo, she asked all the forum girls to create one page and one ATC for a wedding book. I thought that all of us who entered the marriage did it with some comprehension, do we dare to open that mysterious door to wedlock? Hence my page and ATC have the theme of the door into the unknown terrain. Dare To?

Wed Stamper/Fabergegg

These are two sides of a page for my forum friend Nicole's book, with a Russian theme.
The Romanovs were great patrons of Fabergé, so here's my interpretation of this week's theme with a Fabergé egg.
I left two cms on the side for binding.

I also added real Swarovski crystals to the egg for an extra luxurious touch, lol.

I thought this quote was cute and just ideal for a birthday card, so here's a card I made for my forum friend Kaz. I painted this watercolour many years ago, and recently found it among lots of other little paintings.

My attempt at doing charms

I have been admiring polymer pins by Nathalie Daurin-Raynaud using the French playing cards stamps for a while, and thought these stamps would work well for charms.
It was the first attempt at doing charms (for a forum swap).
They are made from Fimo and painted with golden acrylic on both sides.

These are four Romanov sisters, of course.
The tiny blemish on the Anastasia ATC is actually the camera's fault, as the image itself is clean. I wish I noticed it when I took the photo, as now it is gone.

Wed Stamper/The door to marital bliss

Did you know that the church ceremony in the middle ages took place outside the church door before entering the church for a nuptial mass?

I was thinking that if you look at the old engravings long enough,the colour starts to sip into the black and white images, and they become alive. That's why I didn't colour the stamped images completely. I wanted them to look like the shapes becoming alive and colourful.

I am submitting a real quickie this time, as it's either now or never, this last week was so busy with the school break and the usual havoc at home, which looks like a place after the pillage by the Mongol Tartars, and in fact created by two men, an older and a younger ones.
